Our Mission

Mission

The Foster Youth Success Initiative (FYSI) at Fullerton College is committed to advancing equity and student success by supporting current and former foster youth in achieving their academic, personal, and career goals. Through holistic and culturally responsive services, FYSI empowers students with the tools, resources, and advocacy needed to thrive and persist in higher education.

Vision

FYSI envisions a college community where all students with lived experience in foster care are supported, valued, and celebrated. We aim to foster a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment that promotes educational excellence, self-advocacy, and lifelong learning.

Goals

  • Increase access to student support services and community-based resources

  • Provide targeted academic and personal counseling to promote student success

  • Improve retention, persistence, and course completion rates

  • Support progress toward certificate, degree, and transfer milestones

  • Enhance students’ sense of belonging, engagement, and self-efficacy

  • Foster leadership development and post-graduation readiness
